Start! The bible for new believers (review)

Oh my it has been a very long time since I posted a review to this site! I'm hoping to change all of that permanantly as I plan to review new books and products on a regular basis! I hope you all will look forward to reviews on other things such as food and drink samples I recieve by mail!
Well let's get on with it!: The review for START! With commentary written by Greg Laurie!

Start! The Bible for believers is jam packed with easy to find information for new believers or for people who have been reading the bible for years and want to know more about God. The easy to follow arrow system makes learning more about the bible effortless. It's equipped with inspirational writing throughout that can be helpful during devotion, especially for those who don't wish to carry around a seperate devotional book. This an excellent bible and I would recommend it to youth groups, youth pastors, and children's pastors especially as the format is very compatable for those age groups while avoiding the "cheezyness" of a kids or teen bible. I challenge all who buy this to give it a try during daily devotional. I didn't want to put it down!

I have been given a free copy of this bible to review by the booksneeze program at Thomas Nelson publishing company. I have in no way been paid or recompensated for these statements as they are my own true opinion!

A year with God by R.P. Nettlehorst

My first Thomas Nelson book arrived. I have read and thought about this and I'm ready to weigh in my thoughts. First my "official" review for the website:

"A year with God" is a devotional book devided into 365 short segments with the reccomendation that you read one a day, thus encourageing people to spend some time with God every day for a year. The format is very easy reading and it compares to popular short devotionals such as "Our daily bread". However, that being said, I did not like the content. I found it lacking in depth and scriptural truth. The first segment is about Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and includes Genesis 3:8-13 for the reader to see the scriptures for themselves. I love this and think it is convenient for people who may not have a Bible handy. What I did not like was the author's interpretation of the scriptures. He said "Adam and Eve didn't really comprehend why God instructed them not to eat the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, so they followed their own reasoning." This indicates that Adam and Eve were not fully aware of the consequences of their sin when in fact God made it very plain to them. This is just one example of many I have found of scriptural innacuracy among other small errors such as poor writing style and projection of points. All in all, I can't give this book more than one star becasue I believe it is of utmost importance that biblical accuracy be upheld even in a devotional

I am having so much fun with booksneeze already!
I can't wait till my next book comes. I hope the next one is better than this one since it's clear by my review I had a very hard time with this book. I wanted to love it but I just couldn't because it wasn't accurate!

I'm supposed to add that I recieved this book free as part of the book sneeze program from Thomas Nelson publishing company and that they are not paying me to give reviews positive or negative. They want my honest opinion. Check out booksneeze: http://www.booksneeze.com/

An attempt to get this up and going again!

Hey all the blogger fans out there! I logged on and realized it's been a LOOONG time since I posted anything on here. So much has been happening with our family.
I had our first baby Abigail Nichole in December of 08. She is quite the character and we love her very much!

Ryan and I had our third anniversary on June 16th. Hard to believe it's been three years. I'm so thankful to be married to such a wonderful man. He works so hard for me and our family!

My brother Tim (the youngest Marine) met a girl in Seattle and they married August of last year. His wife Tina just had their first baby Faith Alicia. They are now stationed in CA.

My oldest Marine brother Joe met a girl online from near the Quad Cities. They moved to Seattle for about 8 months and are now stationed in North Carolina. His wife Krista just had their first baby Kacie Jane. Joe deployed overseas just 2 days before she was born. We are sad he couldn't be there but happy Kacie is healthy.

Ryan and I have moved back to Decatur and have been there for right around 2 years now. We are currently in the process of moving yet again. Most likely out of the Decatur area.
Lots more to come but for now I must say goodbye and get my little munchkin to bed its half hour past her bedtime!

Jesus bring the rain

I love those times in life when God brings a blessing ....something unexpected. I've always loved rain & the analogies it carries. The earth is dry, cracked & unnourished.
Then comes the rain. Refreshing, renewing, rebirthing in a way, the earth that was almost dead.
God does the same for us.
The past year of my life has carried so much pain. The financial & emotional strain of the first year of marriage was accompanied with 4 deaths of family & people close to us...one our own child God took home at only 3 months in the womb.
All these things found us asking why & in some ways feeling like parts of us died as well.
Two weeks ago, yet another blow hit us...Ryan lost his job. A paperwork miscommunication, something not his fault but still the words "we have to let you go". With only $20 to our name & me 4 months pregnant with our second child we asked God what He wants in all this...His answer: Just trust me.
All that said, we felt dry, empty & so in need of refreshing.Just like the earth.
Last night, God sent the rain....
My brother Tim came home Saturday night to be with us a few days. This was the start of the refreshing rain. Last night the most beautiful thing happened. Our sister in law(to be) Krysta & her best friend Jamie came over & my brother Josh(who came in town wed) Tim, Sarah, Ryan & myself sat out on the porch in a huddle of sorts & joked & laughed all night long. We lost all concept of time & anything else going on &just enjoyed the fellowship & company of one another.
Before we knew it, one am long past, then two finally at three-thirty Krysta said "mom just called &we need to go home"
Hugs were shared all around & we all said goodbye & stumbled in the house bleary eyed but refreshed.

At about 6 am the rain began to pour outside...I had to smile to myself at God's timing.

We still have less than $20 in our account. We have no money...we see no relief just yet...but I have something i havn't had in a long time...hope

"We wait for the blessed hope–the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.

so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life"
(titus 2:13& 3:7)

I have nothing more to say.
